A proper desi breakfast is one of the things people miss most about home. At Hazara Spice in Nelson we call it the Royal Nashta: halwa puri, Lahori chana, fresh parathas, mutton nihari and a strong cup of doodh patti chai, cooked fresh in our kitchen on Albert Street.
Halwa Puri: the king of desi breakfasts
Our Halwa Puri (£3.99) brings together sweet halwa, crispy fried puri and spiced chana on one plate. The mix of sweet, savoury and spicy is what makes it a weekend favourite across Pakistan. If you prefer it without the halwa, order the Chana Puri Plate (£2.99).
Lahori Chana
Lahori Chana (£1.99) is chickpeas cooked slowly in a rich, spiced masala, Lahore-style. Have it with a puri or a paratha, or add it to any breakfast plate.
Parathas and eggs
- Paratha with Butter (£1.99) – a fresh, flaky paratha topped with creamy butter.
- Anda Paratha (£2.49) – soft paratha with egg and desi spices.
- Desi Omelette (£1.99) – eggs cooked with onions, green chillies and fresh herbs.
Mutton Nihari
For a heartier start, our Mutton Nihari (£4.99) is slow-cooked mutton in a rich, spiced gravy, served with naan and fresh garnish. It is one of our weekend specials.
Don’t forget the chai
A desi breakfast is not complete without tea. Our Doodh Patti Chai (£1.99) is slow-brewed, strong and creamy, and our Adrak Chai (£1.99) is brewed with fresh ginger.
Breakfast for the whole family
Royal Nashta is perfect for a family get-together at the weekend. Order a few plates of halwa puri, a bowl of nihari and a round of chai, and share them at the table. Find out more on our Weekend Royal Nashta page.
